About the position

As a Business Lines Senior Territory Manager at Liberty Mutual Insurance, you will own and manage an assigned territory, driving profitable premium growth to achieve financial and operational goals. This role requires you to manage broad and diverse agency partnerships, handling over 50 agency storefronts within a local geographic territory while optimizing territory performance. You will create, implement, and execute territory and agency strategies to achieve goals utilizing all company programs, tools, and resources, collaborating with internal business partners. Your outreach to agencies will primarily be through in-person visits, supplemented by audio or video conferences, email, and other digital media. The position emphasizes business lines, working across a wide breadth of commercial products, coverages, and market appetite. You will work closely with agents and brokers to drive the flow of small commercial business while balancing engagement with agents and brokers to secure larger targeted accounts and manage the account pipeline from end to end. Additionally, you will manage renewal processes and work across multiple underwriting segments. In this role, you will independently build and cultivate mutually beneficial agency partnerships in person with agency ownership, management, and frontline staff. Establishing yourself as a trusted advisor, you will deliver product, underwriting philosophy, appetite, and system training, supporting retention and new business development to increase depth and maximize agency revenue. You will create, maintain, and execute high-quality agency strategies and plans to achieve direct written premium, profit, and new business goals, ensuring alignment with key Personal Lines or Business Lines business strategies. Under limited supervision, you will drive and ensure the quality of new business flow, appropriate book mix, and overall risk management of both individual agency books and the overall assigned territory. This includes providing appetite and target market clarity, identifying and addressing profit or quality of business concerns to ensure profitability across the territory. You will also lead, collaborate with, influence, and support internal business partners to identify and capitalize on opportunities, solve problems, and provide insights from agents and customers. Furthermore, you will strategically utilize internal and external programs and tools designed to support the Independent Agent channel and Senior Territory Manager agency management, including all marketing and development programs, business development tools, and internal production/profitability data and analysis. As a leader, you will provide mentoring for other team members, guidance on agency initiatives, and contribute ideas for continuous improvement. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of sales/insurance industry experience strongly preferred or a combination of high school education and experience required.
  • Self-motivated and driven by results.
  • Ability to effectively manage a territory of agency partner accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout a defined territory may be required.
  • Excellent skills in relationship building, negotiation, coaching, overcoming barriers, and capitalizing on growth opportunities.
  • CPCU, CIC, MBA, or other continued education and industry designations a plus.
