About the position

The University of Oklahoma is seeking a Director of Finance and Operations to lead fiscal and operational initiatives within the College of Continuing Education. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong finance and accounting background, responsible for overseeing daily financial operations, managing departmental budgets, and ensuring compliance with university policies. The Director will enhance operational effectiveness through data analysis and process development, fostering a collaborative work environment focused on financial excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, and manage all fiscal and operational activities.
  • Manage daily financial operations including payroll review, financial transactions approval, and preparation of financial reports.
  • Make recommendations to enhance operations.
  • Prepare and monitor department budgets.
  • Maintain financial records and review all financial budgets and reports.
  • Supervise department financial staff, providing guidance and training.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of financial activity changes.
  • Provide ongoing fiscal monitoring and long-range planning forecasts.
  • Prepare reports with conclusions and recommendations for complex financial problems.
  • Oversee the grant and contract proposal process, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
  • Assist in developing and implementing financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide training on financial policies to staff and faculty.
  • Meet with principal investigators and department chairs to review financial activity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • 36 months experience in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field, including 12 months of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts and internal controls.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to direct the work of subordinate staff and prioritize workload.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • 60 months experience in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field, including 24 months of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Grant and Contract administration experience.
  • University experience, including familiarity with university systems.
  • Experience with change management.
