About the position

The Business Office Representative Clerk at SCA Health plays a crucial role in supporting the facility's operations by performing various business office functions. This position involves managing tasks related to medical records, scheduling surgeries, handling patient and physician communications, and ensuring proper documentation and billing processes. The representative will contribute to the overall efficiency of the surgery center and enhance the patient experience by providing timely and accurate information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the facility by performing specific or various business office functions as assigned.
  • Schedule surgeries in the surgery template in the computer, along with pertinent information.
  • Handle calls from physician's offices regarding scheduling patients at the surgery center.
  • Answer phone calls in a pleasant manner and address physician offices and patient needs expeditiously.
  • Take messages and transfer calls to other departments when necessary.
  • Perform pre-registration and ensure authorization is obtained from the physician's office prior to scheduled surgeries.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for registration and generate information for surgical/special procedures using the computer system.
  • Maintain a log for cancelled appointments.
  • Perform various clerical duties such as photocopying forms, reports, and patient information, mailing surveys, preparing patient charts, faxing forms, and retrieving faxes as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly surgery scheduling area.
  • Verify all scheduled cases as soon as possible and contact patients with financial responsibilities to inform them of payment policies and options.
  • Document all insurance verifications and patient calls clearly in the patient's account.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in health care and minimum of one-year experience in surgery scheduling procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function within a team.
  • Basic knowledge of surgery scheduling, receptionist, and registration responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle stress and be flexible with hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in medical billing and collections.
  • Familiarity with insurance verification processes.
