About the position

The Business Office Representative Clerk at Texas Health Surgery Center Irving plays a crucial role in supporting the facility's operations by performing various business office functions. This part-time position is designed for individuals who are detail-oriented and possess strong communication skills, as they will be the first point of contact for patients and physician offices. The representative will be responsible for a range of tasks including managing medical records, credentialing, admissions/intake, accounts payable, billing, collections, and insurance verification. The role requires proficiency in scheduling surgeries, handling calls from physician offices, and ensuring that all necessary authorizations are obtained prior to scheduled surgeries. In addition to scheduling, the representative will maintain logs for canceled appointments, perform clerical duties such as photocopying and faxing, and ensure that the surgery scheduling area is clean and orderly. The representative will also be responsible for contacting patients regarding their financial responsibilities and informing them of the center's payment policies. This position requires a proactive approach to managing patient accounts and ensuring that all interactions are documented clearly. Candidates should be prepared to work flexible hours and be able to handle the stress that comes with a busy healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in healthcare, particularly in surgery scheduling, and will be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the facility by performing specific or various business office functions as assigned.
  • Manage medical records, credentialing, admissions/intake, accounts payable, billing, collections, and insurance verification.
  • Schedule surgeries in the surgery template and handle calls from physician's offices regarding scheduling.
  • Answer phone calls in a pleasant manner and address physician offices and patient needs expeditiously.
  • Take messages and transfer calls to other departments when necessary.
  • Perform pre-registration and ensure authorization is obtained from the physician's office prior to surgery.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for registration and generate information for surgical/special procedures using the computer system.
  • Maintain logs for canceled appointments and perform various clerical duties such as photocopying and faxing forms.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly surgery scheduling area and verify all scheduled cases as soon as possible.
  • Contact patients with financial responsibilities and inform them of the center's payment policies and options.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in healthcare and at least one year of experience in surgery scheduling procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function within a team.
  • Basic knowledge of surgery scheduling, receptionist, and registration responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle stress and be flexible with hours.
