About the position

As a Business Office Representative Clerk at Rush Oak Brook Surgery Center, part of UnitedHealth Group, you will play a crucial role in supporting the facility by performing various business office functions. This position is integral to ensuring smooth operations within the surgery center, which is dedicated to providing high-quality care to patients. You will be responsible for a range of tasks that include managing medical records, credentialing, admissions/intake, accounts payable, billing, collections, and insurance verification. Your role will also involve scheduling surgeries in the computer system, handling calls from physician offices regarding patient scheduling, and ensuring that all necessary authorizations are obtained prior to surgeries. In addition to these responsibilities, you will be expected to maintain a clean and orderly surgery scheduling area, verify scheduled cases promptly, and communicate effectively with patients regarding their financial responsibilities and payment options. You will also perform various clerical duties such as photocopying, mailing surveys, preparing patient charts, and managing faxes. This position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare, particularly in surgery scheduling, and will be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as you may be required to cover different shifts as needed. Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the facility by performing specific or various business office functions as assigned.
  • Manage medical records, credentialing, admissions/intake, accounts payable, billing, collections, and insurance verification.
  • Schedule surgeries in the surgery template in the computer, along with pertinent information.
  • Handle calls from physician's offices regarding scheduling patients at the surgery center.
  • Answer phone calls in a pleasant manner and address physician offices and patient needs expeditiously.
  • Take messages and transfer calls to other departments when necessary.
  • Perform pre-registration and ensure authorization is obtained from the physician's office prior to scheduled surgeries.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for registration and generate information for surgical/special procedures using the computer system.
  • Maintain a log for cancelled appointments and verify all scheduled cases as soon as possible.
  • Contact patients with financial responsibilities immediately to inform them of payment policies and options.
  • Document all insurance verifications and patient calls clearly in the patient's account.
  • Perform various clerical duties such as photocopying forms, reports, patient information, mailing surveys, preparing patient charts, faxing forms, and retrieving faxes as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly surgery scheduling area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in healthcare and minimum of one-year experience in surgery scheduling procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function within a team.
  • Basic knowledge of surgery scheduling, receptionist, and registration responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle stress and work flexibly with hours.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a surgical environment.
