Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the facility by performing specific or various business office functions as assigned.
  • Schedule surgeries in surgery template in the computer, along with pertinent information.
  • Handle calls from physician's office regarding scheduling patients at the surgery center.
  • Answer phone in a pleasant manner and deal with physician offices and patient's needs expeditiously.
  • Take messages and transfer calls to other departments when necessary.
  • Perform pre-registration and ensure authorization is obtained from the physician's office prior to surgery scheduled.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for registration and use computer system to generate information for surgical/special procedure.
  • Maintain log for cancelled appointments.
  • Perform various clerical duties such as photocopying forms, reports, patient information, mailing surveys, preparing patient charts, faxing forms and retrieving faxes as needed.
  • Maintain clean and orderly surgery scheduling area.
  • Verify all scheduled cases as soon as possible.
  • Contact patients with financial responsibility immediately and inform them of the center's payment policies and offer payment options if necessary.
  • Document all insurance verification and patient calls clearly in the patient's account.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in health care.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in surgery scheduling procedures preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as function within a team.
  • Basic knowledge of surgery scheduling, receptionist and registration responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle stress.
  • Flexibility with hours and ability to work whichever shift is to be covered.
