About the position

The Senior Business & Operations Analyst at Aspen Insurance plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing a process excellence strategy that aligns with the organization's goals. This position is integral to fostering strong partnerships across various business functions to identify specific issues and priorities, ensuring that continuous improvement is embedded within core processes. The analyst will be responsible for translating strategic objectives into actionable project initiatives, detailed requirements, and operational actions that enhance process efficiency and effectiveness. In this role, the analyst will lead efforts to document system designs and requirements, contributing to the strategic vision of the organization. They will also manage special projects and business development opportunities, ensuring that operational plans are in sync with broader business strategies. Key responsibilities include facilitating process review sessions, preparing performance reports, and managing the work intake process for the Policy Services department. The analyst will support ad-hoc requests from US Operations Leadership and drive initiatives aimed at process optimization and continuous improvement. The position requires a collaborative approach, as the analyst will work closely with senior managers and teams to conduct training and problem-solving workshops. They will perform financial and operational analyses to recommend actions that improve productivity and resource optimization. Additionally, the analyst will participate in business process modeling sessions, document business processes, and analyze metrics to identify opportunities for improvement. Effective communication and collaboration with internal teams and external partners are essential to ensure the successful delivery of projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and support the preparation and implementation of operational team plans aligned with business strategy.
  • Facilitate and plan process review and optimization sessions and workshops.
  • Assist with preparing weekly/monthly/annual results and performance reporting.
  • Manage the work intake process and solution roadmap for the Policy Services department.
  • Maintain analysis and business requirement documentation for US Operations projects.
  • Support ad-hoc projects/requests from US Operations Leadership.
  • Support the delivery of a Process Optimization effort with specific responsibility for initiatives and continuous improvement practices.
  • Develop and nurture strong partnerships to understand specific business issues and priorities.
  • Use a standard set of Process excellence/Problem Solving tools to develop insights and solutions.
  • Contribute to the consistent and successful delivery of agreed standard work.
  • Support training and problem-solving workshops with senior managers & teams.
  • Perform financial and operational analysis to recommend actions for productivity improvement.
  • Act as a project manager or test lead on some projects.
  • Participate in business process modeling sessions as a documentarian or facilitator.
  • Contribute to user reference, training, and testing materials by providing requirements and process context.
  • Work with end-users to document business processes and conduct cost/benefit analysis presentations.
  • Participate in business process management efforts to drive data quality monitoring.
  • Analyze metrics and make recommendations to leadership for improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure data and reporting needs are satisfied.
  • Drive business engagement and group sessions as a subject matter expert.
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal underwriting teams and support functions.
  • Partner with Aspen IT on new system and business requirements.
  • Liaise with relevant groups to maintain business relationships and organizational effectiveness.
  • Manage third-party supplier teams or cross-functional project teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a process excellence team member with demonstrated success in transformational change.
  • Experience in the financial services or insurance industries with an understanding of operational management practices (preferred).
  • Lean or similar certification, or experience implementing continuous improvement principles in service organizations.
  • Experience translating business requirements to technical teams.
  • Experience with industry standard process mapping technologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in risk management, Accounting, Insurance, Finance, Business or related fields.
  • MBA degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the Insurance Industry.
  • High level understanding of admitted state regulations.
  • Sound knowledge of problem analysis, structure analysis, and process optimization techniques.
  • Strong understanding of the underlying needs of the business and how own role contributes to these needs.
  • Business and financial awareness of the impact of Service Levels and associated failures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and detail-oriented with high energy.
  • Customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to research inquiries and emerging issues, including regulations and industry practices.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint for executive presentations.
  • Proactive with the ability to collaborate and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Change agent, excellent at managing change at both organizational and individual levels.
  • Expert level process mapping skills.
