About the position

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Business & Operations Coordinator for the South Asia region to support the U.S.-India Business Council and the U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council. This role is pivotal in enhancing the programming, research, and member company engagement within these councils. The coordinator will work closely with the president of the team, gaining insights into the key issues that U.S. businesses face in South Asia. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various stakeholders, including companies, regional government officials in Washington, D.C., and abroad, as well as Chamber colleagues. In this role, the coordinator will be responsible for managing communications directed to the president, ensuring that inquiries are appropriately delegated to directors and managers. The coordinator will also organize and maintain the president's calendar and event schedule, draft and execute contracts, and facilitate the smooth functioning of the South Asia team. Sound judgment is essential, as the coordinator will act as the gatekeeper of the president's time and priorities. Additionally, the coordinator will conduct research and analyze developments in India's economic policy, preparing background briefs, sector updates, press releases, and official correspondence. Tracking relevant U.S. and Indian legislation, calls for comments, and position papers of interest to member companies will also be part of the responsibilities. The coordinator will have the opportunity to invite senior dignitaries to functions in both India and the U.S. that promote U.S.-India commercial ties.

Responsibilities

  • Answer and respond to all inquiries and communications directed to the president.
  • Delegate inquiries to directors and managers as appropriate.
  • Organize, prioritize, and maintain the president's calendar and event schedule.
  • Draft and execute contracts and other internal operations to ensure smooth functioning of the South Asia team.
  • Exercise sound judgment when arranging the president's schedule and act as the gatekeeper of his time and priorities.
  • Research and analyze developments in India's economic policy and help prepare background briefs, sector updates, press releases, and official correspondence.
  • Track relevant U.S. and Indian legislation, calls for comments, and position papers of interest to member companies.
  • Invite, on behalf of the president, senior dignitaries to functions in India and the U.S. that advance U.S.-India commercial ties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year of related work experience in international relations.
  • Experience with scheduling and coordinating events and briefings.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Effective project management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and proofreading skills.
  • Able to meet time-sensitive deadlines and multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Flexibility to work overtime.
