About the position

The Business Operations Manager (BOM) at the University of California, Davis, plays a crucial role in providing organizational leadership and high-level analytical support to the Chief Administration Officer (CAO) and various departments within the College of Letters and Science Social Sciences. This position is responsible for overseeing financial operations, managing business transactions, and ensuring compliance with university regulations. The BOM will also supervise administrative functions and serve as a primary advisor for financial and business operations, making strategic recommendations to facilitate decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Provide organizational leadership and high-level analytical support to the CAO and Yellow Cluster departments.
  • Oversee financial operations and management of all business transactions.
  • Interpret and apply university regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to financial administration.
  • Develop and analyze budgets, including long- and short-range fiscal planning.
  • Monitor funding and expenditures of multiple accounts with varying funding sources.
  • Act as lead advisor for financial and business operation activities.
  • Manage faculty accounts including purchasing, accounts payable/receivable, and travel/entertainment.
  • Serve as backup for the Chief Administrative Officer in their absence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience in recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising staff.
  • Experience performing high-level analytical work and presenting complex data.
  • Experience preparing financial reports and developing financial projections.
  • Skills to recognize and resolve problems with cost recovery, invoices, and payroll.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive environment.

  • Experience with UC payroll accounts and travel policies.

  • Experience leading teams and strategic planning.
