About the position

The Business Operations Manager (BOM) plays a crucial role in providing organizational leadership and high-level analytical support to the Chief Administration Officer (CAO) and various departments within the L&S Division of Social Sciences at UC Davis. This position oversees the Business Office Unit, managing administrative support for instructional and research activities, including fiscal policy, budgeting, and financial transactions. The BOM is responsible for ensuring compliance with university regulations, managing financial operations, and serving as a primary advisor for business operations activities. Additionally, the BOM acts as a backup for the CAO in their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide organizational leadership and analytical support to the CAO and Yellow Cluster departments.
  • Oversee financial operations and management of all business transactions.
  • Interpret and apply university regulations, policies, and procedures related to financial administration.
  • Develop and analyze budgets, including long- and short-range fiscal planning.
  • Monitor funding and expenditures of multiple accounts with varying funding sources.
  • Act as lead advisor for financial and business operation activities.
  • Manage faculty accounts including purchasing, accounts payable/receivable, and travel/entertainment.
  • Serve as backup for the Chief Administrative Officer in their absence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience in recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising staff.
  • Experience performing high-level analytical work and presenting complex data for decision-making.
  • Experience preparing financial reports and developing financial projections.
  • Skills to recognize and resolve issues with cost recovery, invoices, and payroll.
