About the position

The Business Operations Manager at Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control division in Goleta, CA, is responsible for overseeing the SBF Finance team, which includes hiring, performance reviews, and providing day-to-day guidance to financial analysts. This role requires a strong focus on developing talent within the team, creating development plans, and ensuring knowledge transfer and continuity. The manager will also be tasked with refining standard processes to ensure consistency across various programs and analysts, acting as the focal point for financial issues and charging at the site. In this fast-paced environment, the manager will perform complex financial analyses related to manufacturing cost pools, internal initiatives, and outside contracts. They will generate estimates at completion, monitor contract performance against budget and schedule, and develop program baseline budgets. The role involves analyzing variances and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create risk mitigation and recovery plans. Additionally, the manager will review Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) transactions, validate cost allocations, and calculate weekly performance metrics. The position requires a proactive approach to work with multifunctional teams to reduce product costs and improve contract performance, all while meeting tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the SBF Finance team, including hiring and performance reviews.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, training, and development for financial analysts.
  • Create development plans for analysts to ensure talent growth and knowledge transfer.
  • Develop and refine standard processes for consistency across programs and analysts.
  • Act as the focal point for charging and financial issues at the site.
  • Perform complex financial analyses for manufacturing cost pools and internal initiatives.
  • Generate estimates at completion and monitor contract performance to budget and schedule.
  • Develop program baseline budgets and calculate earned value performance.
  • Analyze variances and work with cross-functional teams on risk mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Review MRP transactions and validate proper cost allocations.
  • Calculate weekly performance metrics and manage production pools.
  • Calculate and update sub-assembly values for focal plane arrays and provide monthly status reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage employees and provide clear direction.
  • Effective trainer and mentor with patience.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, particularly in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access.
  • Experience in various financial functions including estimating, cost control, and contract closeouts.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently and independently with minimal oversight.
  • Self-starter and motivated individual who works effectively with all levels of personnel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree desired.
  • Familiarity with Lockheed Martin/Missiles and Fire Control systems and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of the IR industry and experience with cost control of development and production efforts.
  • Advanced computer skills with Excel and Access.
  • Previous experience working for a defense contractor in a similar position.
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFAR regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of earned value management techniques and concepts.
  • Top Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
