About the position

The Business Operations Manager at Lockheed Martin is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the SBF Finance team, which includes hiring, performance reviews, and providing day-to-day guidance to financial analysts. In this fast-paced environment, the Business Operations Manager will be tasked with developing and refining standard processes to ensure consistency across various programs and analysts. The role involves acting as the focal point for financial issues at the site, performing complex financial analyses related to manufacturing cost pools, internal initiatives, and outside contracts. The manager will generate estimates at completion, monitor contract performance against budget and schedule, and develop program baseline budgets while calculating earned value performance. Analyzing variances and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create risk mitigation and recovery plans is also a key responsibility. The position requires a strong analytical mindset, as the manager will review Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) transactions, validate cost allocations, and calculate weekly performance metrics. Additionally, the role involves managing production pools and providing monthly status reports for financial exposure authorizations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, working with multiple programs and competing deadlines while collaborating with multifunctional teams to reduce product costs and enhance contract performance.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and review performance of the finance team.
  • Manage the SBF Finance team, coordinating work assignments and providing guidance.
  • Create development plans for financial analysts to foster talent growth.
  • Develop and refine standard processes for consistency across programs.
  • Act as the focal point for charging and financial issues at the site.
  • Perform complex financial analyses for manufacturing cost pools and contracts.
  • Generate estimates at completion and monitor contract performance to budget and schedule.
  • Develop program baseline budgets and calculate earned value performance.
  • Analyze variances and work with cross-functional teams on risk mitigation plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage employees and provide clear direction.
  • Effective trainer and mentor with patience.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).
  • Experience in various financial functions including estimating and cost control.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree desired.
  • Familiarity with LM/MFC systems and practices.
  • Basic knowledge of the IR industry and cost control experience.
  • Advanced computer skills with Excel and Access.
  • Previous experience in a similar position at a defense contractor.
  • Familiarity with FAR/DFAR regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of earned value management techniques.
