About the position

The Business Operations Manager at Montana State University provides high-level administrative and management support to the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics. This role involves assisting the Department Head, supervising staff, managing HR activities, coordinating events, and overseeing the daily operations of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Executive Assistant to the Department Head to co-facilitate overall department operations.
  • Oversee faculty retention, tenure, and promotion process.
  • Arrange logistics for events, conferences, and lectures, including participating in events as on-site staff.
  • Serve as the primary departmental liaison with Deans' and Director's office and provide backup support for Dean's office BOM.
  • Process documents and perform search support duties for all aspects of recruitment and hiring of professional employees, faculty, and classified staff.
  • Ensure DAEE employees are paid in a timely manner and work to solve payroll-related discrepancies.
  • Communicate relevant changes in personnel and process, and ensure annual evaluations are completed for all applicable employees.
  • Supervise the DAEE Administrative Associate III and Program Coordinator II classified staff positions.
  • Maintain and model a professional and collegial office climate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and progressively responsible administrative experience with an emphasis on customer service in a main office setting or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and prioritizing multiple work assignments, meeting deadlines, and exercising adaptability with close attention to detail, while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with experience formatting professional documents.

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in an academic department in a higher education setting.
