About the position

The Business Operations Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the operational needs of a large software delivery program for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This position requires strong communication and relationship-building skills, as well as the ability to adapt to client-driven priorities. The role is remote but requires the candidate to be located in the DC/Northern Virginia area, with occasional travel to client sites in Ashburn and Lorton, VA.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate government security clearance processes
• Onboard/offboard team members, providing training and managing system accesses
• Review and approve timecards for a large team and distribute task assignments
• Collaborate with financial and vendor management personnel for status reporting
• Support IT needs of the team, including laptop repairs and efficiency tools
• Oversee team compliance with mandatory training requirements
• Contribute content to Program collaboration tools like Confluence
• Identify and implement improvements to operational and financial procedures

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of applicable work experience
• Prior experience in an information technology project environment
• Experience performing financial analysis or support tasks
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365, especially Excel
• Strong interpersonal skills for professional communication
• Excellent relationship-building capabilities
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
• Willingness to work at client sites as required

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with government contracting environment
• Experience with federal government clients
• Knowledge of accounting and finance systems like Unanet
• Familiarity with project management tools such as Confluence and JIRA
