About the position

The Business Planner II position at Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. is a critical role within the Cost Planning Section, located in Farmington Hills, Michigan. This hybrid position allows for a combination of in-office and off-site work, requiring associates to be present in the office at least two days a week while also providing the flexibility to work remotely. The primary focus of this role is to manage and analyze costs associated with auto wiring harnesses throughout various development phases. This includes quoting costs, maintaining product standard costs, and collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate cost registration. In this role, the Business Planner will be responsible for implementing cost reduction activities in collaboration with the wire harness business department and parent companies in Japan, as well as sister companies located mainly in China and Southeast Asia. A key aspect of the position involves tracking the profitability of the wire harness business department and preparing detailed analyses and reports for management, including parent companies. The Business Planner will also prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results of the managerial Profit & Loss statement, collecting necessary accounting and other data to support these reports. Additionally, the Business Planner will create business plans (budgets) for the managerial Profit & Loss statement on a semi-annual or quarterly basis, gathering relevant information and making proposals to management. The role requires calculating purchasing prices for finished goods and selling prices for materials in transactions with group companies, utilizing knowledge of product cost structures and the company's IT systems. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, making this a dynamic and multifaceted position within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Quote auto wiring harness cost in each developing phase.
  • Develop and maintain product standard costs for material and finished goods in SEWS' Cost Accounting System.
  • Inquire quotes and cost registration to other departments.
  • Implement cost reduction activities with wire harness business department within SEWS and with parent companies in Japan (SEI/SWS) and sister companies (group companies located mainly in China and Southeast Asia).
  • Keep track of profitability of wire harness business department and make analysis/report to management including parent companies.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial results of managerial Profit & Loss statement with collecting accounting and other data, and report them to management with analysis.
  • Make a business plan (budget) of managerial Profit & Loss statement twice a year or quarterly by collecting related information and make proposal to management.
  • Calculate wiring harness finished goods purchasing prices in transaction with group companies with knowledge of product cost structures and with use of our IT System.
  • Calculate wiring harness material selling prices in transaction with group companies with knowledge of product cost structures and with use of our IT System.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor in Business Administration or similar fields
  • 3-5 years progressive professional business accounting/finance experience
  • Prior experience in auto parts industry or manufacturing is a plus
  • Working experience at global/international corporation is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English
  • Above average Microsoft Excel skills
  • Able to speak/write in Japanese
