About the position

The Daily News in Southwest Washington is seeking a Business Reporter to cover local business news, focusing on the area's industrial sector and independent businesses. This full-time role involves writing daily news articles and conducting in-depth reporting on significant local economic drivers, such as the Port of Longview. The ideal candidate will be proactive in building relationships and providing insightful coverage that connects readers to their community.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualizing and writing about four stories a week related to the economy, local businesses, and finances affecting Cowlitz County residents.
• Writing in-depth investigative stories regularly.
• Staying informed on local issues by attending area meetings, including those of business nonprofits and government boards.
• Developing sources from various sectors, including elected officials, mill workers, and union representatives, to uncover news affecting the region.
• Taking photos and videos to complement written pieces and enhance storytelling.
• Collaborating with team members and working independently as needed.
• Performing other duties as assigned, including writing general assignment pieces.

Requirements

• Previous reporting experience is preferred, but recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Strong writing skills with the ability to write with authority and clarity.
• Ability to build relationships and connect with various community members.
