About the position

The Senior Business Risk and Controls Advisor plays a crucial role in the Bank Quality Control Program Team at USAA, focusing on governance activities related to risk and compliance management. This position is responsible for managing the Quality Control (QC) Methodology, Coverage Plan, and Procedures, while ensuring effective monitoring of risks associated with Omnichannel and Bank Operations. The advisor collaborates with various stakeholders to enhance the control environment, supports business leaders in adhering to risk frameworks, and drives initiatives to identify and mitigate risks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Handles and drives solutions for stronger controls and supports risk and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Performs ongoing supervision and oversight of business controls, sharing knowledge with team members.
  • Responsible for risk data analysis, report preparation, and trend analysis using business intelligence tools.
  • Anticipates business needs and proactively identifies opportunities to improve the control environment.
  • Assists in translating control deficiencies into actionable plans and provides recommendations for governance practices.
  • Partners with stakeholders to drive improvement efforts and assess impacts of unfavorable trends.
  • Leads project teams through concept, planning, execution, and implementation phases for risk remediation.
  • Advises senior management on the status of the control environment related to risk identification and control weaknesses.
  • Identifies critical areas to monitor and escalates issues to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains processes for managing exception alerts and monitoring resulting cases.
  • Provides control oversight to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of related experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 6+ years of experience in risk-related, compliance-related, or business control design activities.
  • Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 2+ years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • CRCM or Regulatory/Compliance Expertise
  • CERP or other professional Risk designation
  • Previous Retail Banking and/or Quality Control Risk Experience
  • Previous Issue Management experience
  • Experience leading through PRCI/RCSA Process and/or Control Owner experience
  • Experience building program governance/infrastructure
  • US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
