About the position

The Senior Business Risk and Controls Advisor for the Bank Quality Control Program Team at USAA is responsible for executing governance activities related to Bank Quality Control Monitoring. This role involves managing the QC Methodology, Coverage Plan, Procedures, Technology/Tools, and Reporting, while ensuring effective risk and compliance management. The advisor will collaborate with various departments to support risk initiatives and enhance the control environment, ultimately contributing to the financial security of military members and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Handle and drive solutions for stronger controls and support risk and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Perform ongoing supervision and oversight of business controls and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Conduct risk data analysis, report preparation, and trend analysis using business intelligence tools.
  • Translate control deficiencies into actionable plans and provide recommendations for governance practices.
  • Partner with stakeholders to drive improvement efforts and assess impacts on control environments.
  • Lead project teams through concept, planning, execution, and implementation phases for risk remediation.
  • Advise senior management on the status of their control environment related to risk identification and control weaknesses.
  • Develop and maintain processes for managing exception alerts and monitor resulting cases.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations through control oversight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 6+ years of experience in risk-related, compliance-related, or business control design activities.
  • Advanced degree or designation in a risk management or quantitative discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • CRCM or Regulatory/Compliance Expertise
  • CERP or other professional Risk designation
  • Previous Retail Banking and/or Quality Control Risk Experience
  • Previous Issue Management experience
  • Experience leading through PRCI/RCSA Process and/or Control Owner experience
  • Experience building program governance/infrastructure
  • US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
