About the position

The Business Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the Arapahoe County Department of Human Services (ACDHS), specifically within the Child and Adult Protection Services (CAPS) Division. This position is designed to provide administrative support under limited supervision, ensuring that the department operates efficiently and effectively. The specialist will typically focus on one specific role, although duties may rotate based on the needs of the business. The overarching mission of ACDHS is to build strong communities by promoting the safety, independence, and stability of individuals and families, with a vision to end the cycle of poverty and prevent abuse and neglect of children and vulnerable adults. This is achieved through an integrated Two-Generation (2Gen) approach that addresses the needs of the entire family unit, focusing on high-quality services in areas such as early childhood education, adult education, economic security, health and well-being, and social capital. In this role, the Business Support Specialist will act as a liaison between the Administrative Support area and CAPS, as well as other Human Services departments. Responsibilities include collecting, reviewing, and analyzing complex and confidential data, preparing reports and presentation materials, and responding to inquiries from both internal and external sources. The specialist will also take the lead on special projects, participate in process improvements, and establish community connections and resources for CAPS. Additional duties include scheduling meetings, coordinating events, and managing office supplies and expenses. This position requires a high level of professionalism, communication skills, and the ability to make independent decisions while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between the Administrative Support area and CAPS and other Human Services departments.
  • Provide direct clerical support to designated program areas.
  • Collect, review, analyze complex and/or confidential data and prepare reports, charts, and other presentation materials.
  • Respond to, or route non-routine or confidential inquiries from external or internal sources with correspondence or other messaging.
  • Take lead on special projects and participate in program areas process improvements.
  • Record meetings/take notes as needed.
  • Establish community connections and resources for CAPS.
  • Act as a liaison between CAPS and external community partners to share or request information/records.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings/events.
  • Purchase/order office supplies and track other expenses.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 4+ years' experience working with the public in a service-related field.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to learn various computer software applications, including CBMS, TRAILS, VISION, ICM, etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel software programs.
  • Ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Ability to demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively maintain a high level of communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively make independent decisions, multi-task, prioritize and utilize critical thinking skills.
  • Complete 20 hours of relevant training per year.
