About the position

This is a hybrid position requiring on-site presence for two days each week in Torrance, CA. The role is specifically open to candidates who are local to southern California. The Business Analyst will play a crucial role in understanding and addressing business needs through proficient problem-solving skills. This position involves the elicitation, analysis, and documentation of both business and technical requirements across various business units. A successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, enabling them to effectively convey both technical and business requirements. The Business Analyst will collaborate closely with project and team managers, as well as business sponsors, to define the scope, vision, business objectives, and benefits of projects. This includes conducting interviews to gather user requirements, use cases, and scenarios, and ensuring that these requirements are complete, consistent, and comprehensible. The role also involves prioritizing collected requirements in collaboration with stakeholders and the project team, and where applicable, developing prototypes of interfaces based on user requirements. In addition, the Business Analyst will be responsible for creating process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide developers and the project team. They will review existing applications and documentation to gain a thorough understanding of current systems, create systems specifications, and assess the impact of changes on existing processes. The role includes coordinating and performing in-depth tests, providing orientation and training to end users for modified and new systems, and assisting the technical team in resolving system-related issues. Overall, this position is integral to ensuring that business needs are met through effective communication and technical support throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project/team managers and business sponsors to determine scope, vision, business objectives, and benefits.
  • Conduct interviews to gather user requirements, use cases, and scenarios.
  • Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, and comprehensibility.
  • Work with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements.
  • Develop prototypes of interfaces and attributes based on user requirements where applicable.
  • Conduct peer reviews of business requirements to ensure correct interpretation of specifications.
  • Translate conceptual user requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner for developers/project team.
  • Create process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team.
  • Review existing applications and documentation to gain a good understanding of them.
  • Create systems specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system developers.
  • Perform analysis of existing applications and assess the impact of changes to current system processes where applicable.
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews for modified and new systems.
  • Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
  • Assist and guide the technical team in resolving system-related problems.
  • Coordinate testing, validate performance, and support until steady state.

Requirements

  • IS related bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of IT business work experience.
  • Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, and verification on medium to large projects and enhancements.
  • Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Advanced ability to identify best practices and provide technical support for activities throughout all phases of SDLC.
  • Participate in business meetings and walkthroughs to analyze problems and provide business user support.
  • Advanced ability to research, analyze impact, and suggest solutions for complex problems.
  • Advanced ability to develop and update technical design specifications, diagrams, flowcharts, architecture documents, and deployment plans.
  • Working knowledge of software engineering, software development, solution architecture, and implementation of medium to large scale systems across multiple platforms.
  • Advanced ability to assess corporate impacts of changes and recommend strategies to senior management.
