About the position

The Business Systems Analyst 4 position at UCI Health is a pivotal role that leads, develops, and implements strategic plans to support clinical research informatics across UCI Health Affairs. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and administering the research data provisioning program while managing the day-to-day operations of clinical research systems. This includes overseeing the enterprise clinical trial management system (CTMS), electronic data capturing systems, and other research tools. The role requires effective communication and education efforts directed towards the research community, including students, staff, and faculty, regarding available research resources and best practices. The incumbent will also be tasked with creating and maintaining proper workflows, processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), best practices, policies, procedures, and guidelines. A key focus will be on optimizing workflows to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction, which will be measured by the quality and timeliness of data products delivered to researchers, as well as the availability and interoperability of all supported research systems and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans for clinical research informatics.
  • Coordinate and administer the research data provisioning program.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of clinical research systems, including CTMS and electronic data capturing systems.
  • Educate and communicate with the research community about available resources and best practices.
  • Create and maintain workflows, SOPs, policies, and guidelines for research processes.
  • Optimize workflows to enhance customer satisfaction and data product quality.
  • Ensure availability and interoperability of research systems and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 1 to 3 years experience leading a technical support team in a healthcare or scientific research setting.
  • Ability to effectively communicate across multi-functional teams and lead collaborative efforts.
  • Technical and research expertise with strategic and administrative management abilities.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • 3+ years' experience as an analyst or project manager in healthcare or scientific research settings.
  • In-depth understanding of human subject research policies and procedures, including IRB and HIPAA regulations.
  • 1+ years with OMOP or clinical research data warehouse.
  • Knowledge of ontologies or data standards such as ICD-9/10, CPT, LONIC, and SNOMED CT.
  • Experience with enterprise Clinical Trials Management Systems in a healthcare setting.
  • Thorough understanding of the Epic EHR system.
  • Advanced critical and analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong SQL and relational database knowledge.
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Life Science, or related discipline.
  • PMP Certification.
  • CSM Certification.
  • Proficient in BI tools or data analytic platforms such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, Snowflake.
  • Experience in clinical research finance administration or supporting research revenue integrity.
  • Knowledge in OnCore/Epic interfaces or other 3rd party interfaces.
  • Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP).
  • Knowledge in data governance theory and practice.
  • Proficiency in Epic Research or Epic Clarity.
