About the position

The Business Systems Analyst - Financial Systems (FS) at APL is responsible for providing advisory and functional support to enhance IT business applications, particularly in financial systems. This role involves collaborating with multi-functional teams to understand business needs, analyzing existing processes, and developing innovative solutions that align with financial and accounting principles. The analyst will also facilitate workshops, manage multiple priorities, and drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies to improve systems and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to collect business requirements and translate them into functional and technical requirements.
  • Perform analysis of existing processes and applications, assisting with redesigning technical solutions to improve financial and reporting efficiencies.
  • Advise technical members on the financial impact of IT projects and ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Assist with the configuration of accounting rules in financial applications.
  • Develop comprehensive documentation including process flows, training guides, functional specifications, and future state business process designs.
  • Facilitate design and requirement workshops to gather input and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies and methodologies that enhance systems and processes.
  • Conduct training sessions for end-users to ensure smooth adoption of new processes and systems.
  • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, or related fields (advanced degree preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in delivering financial IT solutions, including gathering requirements and developing functional specifications.
  • 7+ years of experience with financial enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications, preferably Oracle EBS.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and their application within business processes and technology.
  • Proven ability to cultivate strong relationships with business stakeholders and translate business needs into IT solutions.
  • Strong leadership skills to inspire and guide teams toward a shared vision.
  • Exceptional communication skills to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficient in data analysis and querying, with strong SQL experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 7+ years of experience configuring and troubleshooting for Oracle EBS.
  • Experience leading a financial remediation effort or serving as a functional lead of an ERP implementation project.
  • Experience as a power user in Power BI.
  • Prior experience as a consultant or working for large, Federal direct- and grant-funded research organizations.
  • CPA certification.
  • Certification/training in Agile Project Delivery and/or Business Analysis.
