About the position

The Business Analyst at Markel serves as the primary interface among executives and senior stakeholders to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies, and information systems. This role is crucial in understanding business problems and opportunities, recommending solutions that align with organizational goals, and developing specifications that support various projects. The Business Analyst also engages in business process re-engineering and organizational change exercises, ensuring effective communication and documentation throughout the process.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies, and information systems.
  • Develop business, functional, system requirements, and report specifications for assigned projects.
  • Create test scenarios and test cases for system and integration testing.
  • Guide partners in devising effective approaches to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Model and map business processes, conducting as-is/to-be analyses.
  • Participate in business process re-engineering (BPR) initiatives and organizational change exercises.
  • Write and present business cases and documentation for existing tasks/defects.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred, high school diploma required.
  • Ability to handle and complete multiple, concurrent tasks with various user interfaces.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Assertive, flexible, proactive, and a phenomenal teammate with a proven sense of ownership.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity in business needs and requirements.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Insurance experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of databases, tables, and fields to pull SQL queries is helpful.
