About the position

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a Business Systems Analyst - Product Owner to join our team in Stevens Point, WI. In this role, you will be an integral part of a nimble Agile team, contributing to both small and large-scale initiatives that significantly impact our Travel Insurance business. You will collaborate closely with technical teams, user experience designers, and business stakeholders from various departments including marketing, operations, sales, service, and claims. Your primary responsibility will be to understand the product vision, business requirements, system processing implications, and data needs for the product you support. As a Business Systems Analyst/Product Owner, you will be expected to embrace change, ask insightful questions, and demonstrate a passion for solving customer and business problems. You will play a crucial role in requirements elicitation and analysis, user story creation, and requirements documentation. Your ability to prioritize and groom the backlog for the products you support will be essential, as will your skills in maintaining the product roadmap. You will also create various documentation artifacts such as workflow and data flow diagrams, design mock-ups, and data mappings to support the development process. In addition, you will represent the voice of the customer, becoming an expert in the business processes and software applications used within your domain. This position requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as you will interact with a diverse group of executives, subject matter experts, and vendor resources. Your analytical and conceptual thinking skills, along with your attention to detail, will be key to influencing stakeholders and determining acceptable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify stakeholders and facilitate discussions or workshops to elicit and understand stakeholder needs, requirements, and priorities.
  • Map out and document User Stories that describe the scope of the project based on business features and needs.
  • Document detailed functional/non-functional requirements for each User Story, including supporting workflows and screenshots.
  • Provide direction and collaborate with the business on prioritization and backlog grooming for the product(s) supported.
  • Maintain the roadmap for the product(s) supported.
  • Create documentation such as workflow and data flow diagrams, design/report mock-ups, and data mappings as needed.
  • Clarify questions from development/QA teams regarding intended software usage and business processes.
  • Represent the voice of the customer and become an expert in the business processes and software applications used within the domain.

Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience performing Agile Business Analysis tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Agile work management tools such as Jira/Confluence, Azure Dev Ops, or Trello.
  • Experience with diagramming tools and various diagrams including flowcharts, swimlane diagrams, and user story mapping.
  • Familiarity with data models, data flows, and documenting reporting requirements is a plus.
  • Quick learner with the ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives and subject matter experts.
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine acceptable solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with diagramming tools for creating various types of diagrams.
  • Familiarity with data models and documenting reporting requirements.
