About the position

The Business Systems Analyst, Reporting & Analytics will play a crucial role in collecting and analyzing data from various campus data sources, including databases, spreadsheets, and other repositories. This position is essential for identifying trends, patterns, and insights within the data to support decision-making processes at the university. The analyst will be responsible for analyzing and developing practices, processes, and procedures related to data sets, reporting, and analysis. This includes conducting research and providing insights that enable core data reporting and dashboarding functions for the university. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Business Systems Analyst will work closely with stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and student users, as well as technical teams, to understand their reporting and analytics needs. They will elicit and document requirements to ensure that data reports and analyses align with the university's business objectives. By enabling stakeholders to effectively leverage data and insights, this position will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture, advancing the institution's academic mission. The analyst will deliver exceptional information technology services consistently across faculty, staff, and students, executing UCLA's vision while modeling its culture and values.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze relevant data from various campus data sources.
  • Identify trends, patterns, and insights within the data to support university decision-making.
  • Analyze and develop practices, processes, and procedures related to data sets, reporting, and analysis.
  • Conduct research and provide insights for core data reporting and dashboarding functions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their reporting and analytics needs.
  • Elicit and document requirements to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Deliver exceptional information technology services across faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in information technology, data services, application services, IT service management, or a related field.
  • Experience utilizing analytics tools to measure success and support decision-making.
  • Experience conducting or facilitating requirements gathering interviews or sessions.
  • Experience supporting the development of test strategies and plans using widely accepted test methodologies or frameworks.
  • Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow, and architecture.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Tableau, IBM Cognos, Oracle Reporting, or similar.
  • Proficient in data visualization and analytics, with design experience using business intelligence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish and advance positive working relationships with team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate options and make decisions with integrity.
  • Ability to participate in activities that advance an inclusive environment valuing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Creative thinking and proposing innovative ideas, including new technologies or processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five or more years of experience in information technology, data services, application services, or IT service management.
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university.
