About the position

COSCO SHIPPING LINES (North America) is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to join the Business Process Management Department at our Houston, TX office. This role is pivotal in supporting, maintaining, and developing the organization's global information system along with its associated peripheral systems and processes. The Business Systems Analyst will operate under limited supervision, preparing recommendations for new systems, enhancements to existing systems, and procedural changes aimed at improving efficiency and workflow. A solid understanding of the organization's global information system, its peripheral systems, and the overall business functions and procedures is essential for success in this position. The key activities of this role include acting as the lead on the development, design, and implementation of projects with a limited scope. The analyst will analyze and evaluate requests for system enhancements and proposals for new systems, making informed recommendations to management. Drafting system design requirements and logic specifications for submission to technical development teams will be a critical part of the job, guided by senior BPM staff. The analyst will also be responsible for testing enhancements and new systems to ensure proper functionality and compatibility with local business requirements, coordinating with the development team to resolve any technical issues that arise. In addition, the Business Systems Analyst will monitor the implementation of system changes in production, coordinate user acceptance testing, and write and maintain system documentation, user guides, and procedures. Providing operational training to staff and system users is also a key responsibility. The analyst will assist business departments in resolving computer-related problems by troubleshooting and coordinating with IT staff as necessary. Other duties may include EDI communication setup and troubleshooting, documenting system problems and solutions for future reference, and participating as a team member or lead on inter-departmental and cross-departmental projects with limited scope. Monitoring and reporting on data quality and maintaining Corporate Performance Monitoring Key Performance Indicators will also be part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide system operational training to staff and system users.

  • Set up and troubleshoot EDI communication.
  • Document system problems and solutions for future reference.
  • Participate as a team member and lead on inter-departmental and cross-departmental projects with a limited scope.
  • Monitor and report on data quality; identify and support improvement measures.
  • Maintain Corporate Performance Monitoring Key Performance Indicators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience as a systems analyst or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and devise effective and logical system and procedural solutions.
  • Work effectively independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical organization members.
  • Ability to learn new computer systems independently through self-study and practice and teach others.
