About the position

The Business Systems Analyst plays a crucial role in analyzing various data processing problems across science, engineering, business, and other domains to enhance electronic data processing systems. This position is responsible for gathering and analyzing user requirements, procedures, and issues to automate or improve existing systems. The analyst will review computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. The role requires a deep understanding of the business needs and the ability to translate these needs into actionable insights for programmers and developers. In this position, the analyst will engage with various business units to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications. They will prepare cost-benefit analyses and return-on-investment assessments to support decision-making regarding system implementations. Additionally, the analyst will confer with clients to understand their information processing and computational needs, ensuring that the solutions provided align with their expectations. A key responsibility will be to coordinate and link computer systems within the organization to enhance compatibility and facilitate information sharing across departments. The Business Systems Analyst must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. They should be capable of working independently while managing their time effectively. A foundational knowledge of design techniques and principles, as well as familiarity with computer software such as Visual Basic, Java, and SQL, is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements from business units and translate those to programmers and developers.
  • Prepare cost-benefit and return-on-investment analyses to aid in decisions on system implementation.
  • Confer with clients regarding the nature of the information processing or computation needs.
  • Coordinate and link the computer systems within an organization to increase compatibility and so information can be shared.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required or equivalent work experience required.
  • 3-5 years experience required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic ability to work independently and manage one's time.
  • Basic knowledge of design techniques and principles involved in production of drawings and models.
  • Basic knowledge of computer software, such as Visual Basic, Java, SQL, etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or other related advanced degree preferred.
