About the position

The Business Systems Engineer II - EWM/SAP WM at Grainger is a hands-on functional team member responsible for developing and testing software solutions that support the company's growth. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about software development and testing, eager to learn, and interested in contributing to a collaborative development culture. Initially, the position focuses on testing solutions within the Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) and SAP Warehouse Management (WM) domains, but it is designed to evolve as the individual gains experience and as business needs change. Candidates should be adaptable and willing to tackle challenging tasks to help solve customer issues creatively. In this role, you will utilize your knowledge to transform complex concepts into clear, simple test cases that minimize risks associated with production deployments. You will be responsible for writing well-documented and maintainable test cases, configuration documents, and process flows. Additionally, you will investigate and resolve application issues, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies using DevOps tools. Conducting and evaluating unit and integration tests will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will participating in refinement sessions that involve multiple languages and applications. You will also support production deployments during go-live phases and collaborate with your team to foster a positive work environment. As part of your duties, you will seek opportunities to enhance team performance and work with other peer groups to ensure consistency across processes. Developing prototypes and proof of concepts (POCs) to showcase new ideas or technologies will also be part of your role. Participation in Agile ceremonies is expected, where you will provide feedback, communicate issues or blockers, and update the team on project status.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test software solutions to support business growth.
  • Write well-documented and maintainable test cases, configuration documents, and process flows.
  • Investigate and resolve application issues, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies using DevOps tools.
  • Conduct and evaluate the results of unit and integration tests.
  • Participate in refinement sessions that span multiple languages and applications.
  • Support production deployments during go-live phases.
  • Collaborate with the team to provide a positive work environment.
  • Identify opportunities for team improvement and guide consistency with peer groups.
  • Develop prototypes and POCs to demonstrate new ideas or new technologies.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies to provide feedback and communicate project status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a comparable field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Distribution Center/Warehouse Operations and functions.
  • Experience working in SAP ECC, SAP WM, and SAP EWM.
  • Understanding of user operations and how individual tasks fit into an overall process.
  • Ability to maintain an updated skill set in new technologies and programming techniques.
  • Team player with the ability to work with Grainger technical and business contacts.
  • Working knowledge of Jira or the Agile Methodology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in SAP GTS is a plus.
