About the position

The Business Unit Finance Manager for Environmental Solutions at Republic Services is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day finance functions of the business unit. This includes managing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and the Monthly Close process. The role is pivotal in conducting business analysis aimed at achieving profitable growth, margin expansion, and the establishment of durable business processes. As a business partner to the General Manager of the business unit, the Finance Manager will ensure that all financial processes are managed effectively, deadlines are met, and that the finance team is well-trained, supervised, and mentored. The position also involves implementing and enforcing internal controls, compliance requirements, and process improvement plans to enhance operational efficiency. In this role, the Finance Manager will lead and manage the general finance staff, oversee the period-end close process, and maintain the general ledger along with supporting documentation. They will establish, implement, and monitor appropriate internal controls and policies to ensure compliance with US GAAP and corporate requirements. The Finance Manager will provide key performance measure reporting to improve the business unit's profit and productivity, ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet and monthly reconciliations. Additionally, they will manage capital expenditures, oversee the Accounts Payable process for purchasing, receiving, and invoice processing, and conduct variance analysis to support divisional management. The Finance Manager will coordinate with Sales for proposal reviews and pricing model updates, lead the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes, and work closely with internal and external auditors. They will also support the Operations Manager, Supervisors, and General Manager in operational process design and training, while identifying areas for improvement through streamlining and automating the accounting process. Other duties and projects may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Experience in waste, energy, or environmental services sectors
  • Experience in a multiple location environment
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to work under time constraints to meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and documentation skills
  • Proficiency with US GAAP
  • Minimum of 5 years of related professional level accounting or financial experience
