About the position

The Business Unit Finance Manager at Republic Services is responsible for managing the accounting workflow and providing analytical support to division management. This role ensures the quality of accounting practices and compliance with statutory financial regulations, while also overseeing financial internal control processes across various business unit functions.

Responsibilities

  • Manages accounting and payroll personnel and provides direction to different accounting functional areas.
  • Manages financial internal control processes to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Ensures that all internal and external reporting deadlines are met.
  • Manages reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and reviews financial statements for compliance with GAAP.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and develops accounting staff at the business unit.
  • Provides analytical support for customer pricing and profitability analysis, commercial and municipal bids, and market development projects.
  • Provides financial analytics to support sound and profitable business decisions for the General Manager.
  • Manages credit and collection functions to maximize division cash-flow.
  • Manages accounting aspects of capital expenditures and reviews related asset management transactions.
  • Supports the General Manager during the annual budget and interim forecasting process.
  • Manages and provides support to financial audits including internal and external audits.
  • Responds to information requests from Corporate and regional financial management as required.
  • Ensures completion and submission of financial filings required by contractual agreements and government entities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of related accounting or financial experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of management, supervisory or lead experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Lawson accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
