About the position

Amentum is seeking a Buyer III, Supply Chain Strategy and Growth to join our Team! This position is CONUS remote with minimal travel requirements. Under general direction, the Buyer III will source a high volume and variety of materials, supplies, and services to support proposals. The role is crucial in supporting the Business Development group in obtaining pricing for proposal efforts, establishing Blanket Purchase Agreements when suitable for recurring material requirements, and providing support during transitions of new prime contracts for Amentum. The Buyer III is expected to assist in the development of procurement strategies, specific supplier strategies, and bid details for new business opportunities. This position requires proposal support experience and the ability to work in a dynamic and demanding environment. The essential responsibilities of the Buyer III include applying sound procurement techniques to support acquisition planning and strategies, maintaining a working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations and standard commercial procurement practices, and developing sourcing lists for various commodities to support the development of requests for information (RFIs), quotations (RFQs), proposals (RFPs), and invitations to bid. The Buyer III will also qualify potential suppliers, review solicitation responses, and perform relevant analyses including price and cost evaluations, compliance with the Statement of Work, delivery terms, and payment terms. Additionally, the Buyer III will serve as a business advisor to internal customers, providing alternative solutions to requested items that could enhance performance, achieve cost savings, or positively impact schedules. The role involves negotiating all aspects of procurements with suppliers to achieve the best value procurement possible, coordinating the vetting of potential partners, and following guidance from the Global Supply Chain, Business Development, and Pricing management teams to obtain necessary pricing and technical information for proposals. The Buyer III will also assist in developing databases and tools to access historical pricing and SOWs to expedite the procurement process, leveraging best practices to shape competitive bids and overall procurement strategy. The position requires effective team-building and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders while maintaining compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Source a high volume and variety of materials, supplies, and services to support proposals.
  • Support the Business Development group in obtaining pricing for proposal efforts.
  • Establish Blanket Purchase Agreements for recurring material requirements.
  • Assist with the development of procurement strategy and specific supplier strategies.
  • Develop sourcing lists for various commodities to support RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and invitations to bid.
  • Complete Bills of Materials (BoMs) in coordination with pricing and business development.
  • Qualify potential suppliers and review solicitation responses.
  • Perform relevant analyses including price and cost evaluations, compliance with Statement of Work, delivery terms, and payment terms.
  • Serve as a business advisor to internal customers, providing alternative solutions to requested items.
  • Negotiate all aspects of procurements with suppliers to achieve the best value procurement possible.
  • Coordinate the vetting of potential partners and ensure suppliers meet minimum requirements.
  • Follow guidance from Global Supply Chain, Business Development, and Pricing management teams to obtain pricing and technical information for proposals.

  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Business, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline is required; equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years purchasing experience in support of a Federal prime contract in a CPSR compliant environment.
  • Experience supporting material sourcing for proposal support.
  • Experience managing strategic purchasing agreements (i.e., blanket purchase agreements).
  • Proficient in basic office software applications (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Costpoint ERP platform is desired.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance.
