About the position

The Buyer-in-Training (BIT) position at CarMax serves as the entry-level role within the Merchandising department, focusing on acquiring and managing the company's used car inventory. This role involves completing a comprehensive training program over 4-6 months, where BITs learn about vehicle basics, market analytics, and appraisal processes under the supervision of a manager. The position emphasizes customer service, negotiation skills, and the ability to make informed purchasing decisions.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and negotiate current market prices for vehicles.
• Conduct vehicle appraisal offers and coordinate on-site Wholesale Auctions.
• Attend offsite auctions as assigned.
• Perform accurate vehicle condition assessments and communicate required information.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and collaborate with other departments.
• Support the execution of new store procedures and technology platforms.
• Utilize technology for effective collaboration with team members.
• Complete the Buyer-in-Training program successfully.

Requirements

• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Ability to make independent judgments regarding vehicle purchases and pricing.
• Strong communication skills with internal and external customers.
• Ability to analyze market data and complete paperwork accurately.
• Demonstrated track record of successful associate development and goal setting.
