About the position

The Buyer / Procurement Business Professional Intern at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) will engage in contract functions including budgeting, negotiation, placement, administration, and closeout of contracts. This internship is designed for students pursuing a bachelor's degree, providing hands-on experience in procurement while supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and effective teamwork with peers and management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare input and analyses for budgets, proposals, and post-award financial assessments with significant oversight.
  • Develop acquisition strategy, including risk assessment, and submit for approval as required.
  • Create realistic milestone schedules leading to purchase order placement that will support company needs.
  • Prepare and issue requests for proposal for solicitations, perform proposal openings, and conduct detailed analysis of supplier proposals.
  • Resolve all technical and administrative issues identified by the Supplier within their proposal.
  • Prepare for and conduct purchase order negotiations.
  • Write a formal recommendation to justify the price and discuss contract delivery dates.
  • Perform post-placement contract administration, including continuous communication with suppliers and processing supplier shipping documents and invoices.
  • Develop strong relationships with supplier counterparts and maintain open communication with BPMI contract professionals.
  • Input and reconcile data across various data systems, including budgeting and procurement scheduling.
  • Team with engineering counterparts and other departments to execute contract requirements effectively.
  • Participate in teams to evaluate procedures and perform internal audits for compliance.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management/administration or equivalent education from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of four full semesters completed prior to your internship (60 credits).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.
