About the position

The Buyer/Purchasing Agent position at Avista is responsible for creating purchase orders and requisitions based on stakeholder requests and system requirements. The role requires expertise in ERP systems to manage part demand and supply plans effectively. The successful candidate will communicate order statuses, negotiate with suppliers, and build strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the supply chain and contributes to departmental goals, cost-saving initiatives, and contract management.

Responsibilities

• Create purchase orders or requisitions in response to stakeholder requests.
• Use ERP systems to understand part demand and create effective supply plans.
• Communicate order status and exceptions to fulfillment needs promptly.
• Negotiate delivery, pricing, and payment terms with suppliers.
• Establish positive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
• Contribute to departmental on-time delivery goals and cost savings initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal customers to prepare and execute agreements.
• Provide training and expertise on procurement and contracting practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Marketing preferred for Buyer role; required for Sr. Buyer role.
• 3 years related purchasing or contract administration experience for Buyer; 5 years for Sr. Buyer.
• Knowledge of Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and applicable contract law; certifications like CPM or CPCM desired.
• Broad knowledge of contracting and purchasing strategies for various services and materials.
• Experience in negotiation, purchasing, inventory management, and contract administration.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with ERP systems, preferably Oracle.
• Training in dispute resolution and service contract issues.
• Understanding of electric and natural gas industries.
