About the position

The Buyer at Teledyne Controls is responsible for sourcing and procuring materials for build-to-print assemblies, ensuring the best cost while maintaining quality and timely delivery. This role involves managing complex commodities, negotiating with suppliers, and collaborating with internal teams to meet project specifications and production schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, source, negotiate, and purchase complex commodities for build-to-print assemblies.
  • Work closely with internal customers to obtain specifications for projects.
  • Create requests for quotes, gather quotations, and negotiate favorable terms.
  • Proactively identify and solve material issues to eliminate shortages and minimize production delays.
  • Expedite orders and keep internal customers informed of any problems.
  • Administer and maintain past purchase orders for assigned commodities.
  • Provide pricing, lead times, and projected ship dates to internal customers.
  • Resolve receiving and accounts payable issues.
  • Interpret and communicate company procedures to internal departments and suppliers.
  • Manage supplier performance in quality, delivery, and pricing.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and identify potential suppliers.
  • Coordinate discussions regarding defective or non-conforming products with QA and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in Procurement, preferably in aerospace or defense.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to perform effective presentations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of electronic components and basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Government Contracting and Small Business Regulations.
  • APICS CPIM and/or ISM Certified Greenbelt Lean Manufacturing 6 Sigma certificate or equivalent training.
  • Ability to provide training and guidance to team members on assigned commodities.
