About the position

The Buyer position at Tranter involves executing and developing optimal supplier base solutions in alignment with the company's sourcing objectives and commodity strategies. The role focuses on purchasing materials, supplies, and services at favorable terms while ensuring compliance with federal regulations regarding sensitive U.S. military information. The Buyer will be responsible for vendor qualifications, supplier audits, and monitoring supplier performance to drive continuous improvement in supply chain operations.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase materials, supplies, and services at the most favorable terms for the organization.
  • Complete vendor qualifications and supplier audits.
  • Submit and evaluate bids for purchased goods and services and select new suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and lead development initiatives internally and externally.
  • Monitor PPV results and identify new opportunities to reduce costs.
  • Report monthly on department KPIs such as supplier lead times and on-time delivery.
  • Establish material contracts consistent with cost, inventory, and quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate ERP system information such as lead times and standard costs.
  • Create/update supplier agreements considering optimal total cost and risk exposure.
  • Select competitive suppliers based on quality, delivery, service, and total cost objectives.
  • Develop and negotiate long-term contracts and agreements with suppliers.
  • Ensure the delivery of materials, equipment, or services to meet production schedules.
  • Anticipate and identify problems with suppliers and develop alternative solutions.
  • Lead department training for new Buyers and facilitate lean activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Materials Management, or Supply Chain Management.
  • 2-4 years of experience in Supply Chain Planning or Materials Management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive experience utilizing an MRP System.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Six Sigma Certification or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
  • APIC's CPIM certification preferred.
