About the position

The Buyer position at Cornerstone Building Brands is responsible for managing raw materials inventory planning as part of the procurement team. This role focuses on maintaining optimal inventory levels, managing purchase orders, and collaborating with various teams to ensure efficient operations and continuous improvement in safety, quality, and cost management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining optimal raw material inventory levels using MRP and lean inventory management tools.
  • Placement, management, and entry of purchase orders, as well as communicating purchase order status with suppliers.
  • Performing root cause analysis on delivery failures.
  • Coordinating inventory transfers between facilities and customer expedite requests.
  • Participating in continuous improvement activities to accomplish plant business goals and objectives.
  • Collaborating with teams such as Customer Experience and Response, Operations Planning, Finance, Engineering, IT, Research, Development and Innovation, Logistics and other manufacturing facilities.
  • Leading defined, medium-sized projects.
  • Analyzing and reporting inventory levels to plan, recommend and implement corrective action.
  • Developing and implementing effective processes for new product offerings/enhancements and ramp-up/ramp-down plans for product changes.
  • Promoting safety and ensuring a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Requires a 4 year degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years' experience working within purchasing preferred, or equivalent supply chain, customer service, production leadership, and/or inventory management experience.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze data, offer solutions, and implement improvements.
  • Solid understanding of information systems that support supply chain and manufacturing operations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and databases.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience using and teaching lean tools and techniques such as 5S, 5 why, A3 thinking, pull/kanban systems, and kaizen preferred.
