About the position

Amgen's Decision Sciences team within the Commercial Data and Analytics (CD&A) department is seeking a Director of Advanced Marketing Analytics. This pivotal role requires an analytics executive with exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, including Sales and Marketing VPs, Business Unit Heads, and Finance leadership. The successful candidate will translate analytical outputs into actionable recommendations, driving marketing strategies that ensure our products effectively reach the right audience and positively impact patients' lives. In this role, you will focus on understanding customer needs, market trends, and the competitive landscape while making data-driven investment decisions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Marketing, Value & Access, Media, Forecasting, and Finance, is essential to optimize marketing spend. You will be responsible for designing metrics and KPIs to track performance across various channels, ensuring accountability for measuring spend effectiveness and providing recommendations for future optimization. Additionally, you will work closely with Marketing and Finance teams to analyze the financial impact of marketing initiatives, adjusting strategies as necessary. A key aspect of this position is to instill trust in stakeholders regarding data-driven investment recommendations. You will also be tasked with hiring, coaching, mentoring, and leading a team of analytical leads to fulfill the promise of driving data-driven investment decisions for the commercial organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inputs, insights, and recommendations for crafting and driving marketing strategies.
  • Engage with and influence senior stakeholders to translate analytical outputs into meaningful recommendations.
  • Design metrics and KPIs to track performance of spend across in-person, digital, and media channels.
  • Accountable for measurement of spend effectiveness and recommendations on optimization of future spend across brands, tactics, channels, and audience types.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Media, Finance, and other CD&A teams to build marketing budgets and monitor spending for cost-effectiveness and maximizing ROI.
  • Analyze the financial impact of marketing initiatives and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Instill trust in stakeholders on data-driven investment recommendations.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and lead a team of analytical leads.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Economics) and 4 years of applied statistics/data science and/or analytics experience OR Master's degree in a quantitative field and 8 years of applied statistics/data science and/or analytics experience OR Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field and 10 years of applied statistics/data science and/or analytics experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven investment decisions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to collaborate with senior partners to translate business requirements into analytical plans.
  • Experience with Marketing Mix Modeling and Marketing Mix Attribution, including optimization of media investments.
  • Proven experience in pharmaceutical marketing or healthcare marketing, with a focus on customer-facing roles.
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, regulations, and market dynamics.
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
