The Maryland Department of Transportation's Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT) is seeking candidates for the position of C-Repairman-Bus. This entry-level role involves performing manual maintenance work that includes routine maintenance, cleaning, fueling, servicing, and operating MTA vehicles and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for washing the interiors and exteriors of vehicles, either manually or using automatic equipment. They will also remove debris from inside the vehicles, conduct visual inspections for personal property left inside, and check for suspicious items. Additionally, the role requires the removal of graffiti from both interior and exterior surfaces using manual methods or machine-type devices and chemical cleaning agents. In this position, employees will be tasked with checking and replenishing various fluids, including fuels and engine oil, while maintaining accurate records of the fluids dispensed. The role requires the ability to operate various types of vehicles and equipment to perform routine maintenance procedures, adhere to shop and yard safety protocols, and follow environmental procedures. Employees will work under close supervision and are expected to report any visible damages or unusual conditions. They will also assist in preparing maintenance activity reports and maintaining cleanliness in work areas. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or a GED recognized by the State of Maryland. One year of full-time experience in the truck, bus, or automotive trade is required, which includes changing fluids and filters, removing parts from vehicles, fueling, and visually inspecting vehicles for discrepancies. Candidates with U.S. Armed Forces military service experience may substitute this for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis. Special requirements for this position include maintaining a reliable communication link for emergency callbacks, working shifts that may include evenings, holidays, and weekends, and being exposed to various hazards that necessitate the use of protective clothing and safety equipment. Employees in this role are considered "Essential Employees" and must agree to all related policies. Background investigations and pre-employment drug testing are mandatory. A valid Driver's License in the State of Maryland is required, and the C-Repairman must obtain a Class "B" Restricted Permit within two weeks of hire and a Class "B" Restricted License within the probation period.
