About the position

The Cable Splicer Apprentice at OG&E is an entry-level position designed to provide on-the-job training and education in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of electric distribution systems. This apprenticeship program allows individuals to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to progress to a fully qualified journey level, with increasing responsibilities and pay as training is completed successfully.

Responsibilities

• Construct and maintain underground network electric distribution systems according to safety standards.
• Install, repair, and remove conductors, transformers, capacitors, and street lights.
• Extend and rebuild the distribution system based on engineering drawings.
• Perform troubleshooting and service restoration in emergencies.
• Conduct appropriate switching to de-energize facilities and ensure safe job performance.
• Install and repair primary cable, risers, and switch cubicles on underground systems.
• Locate and repair underground faults on primary and secondary circuits.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and complete necessary documentation.
• Inspect, maintain, and test tools and equipment used in the job.
• Maintain positive relationships with customers and company departments.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Class A CDL with DOT certification
• Ability to obtain a Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire
• Basic understanding of electrical principles
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with mechanical equipment
• Ability to read and understand construction standards and operating procedures
• Effective communication skills in speech and writing
• Computer skills with knowledge of required software

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with construction equipment such as forklifts and backhoes
• Previous experience in electrical work or related fields
