About the position
The Cable Technician role at Insight Global involves the installation and maintenance of network cabling systems in Montgomery, TX. The technician will be responsible for ensuring that cabling is installed according to standards, testing systems, and supporting network infrastructure operations. This position requires flexibility in work hours, including potential night and weekend shifts, to meet customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Installing, labeling, and testing premise cabling, connections, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, and associated hardware according to standards.
- Reading and understanding system installation drawings and design packages.
- Testing fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.
- Installing communications pathways including conduit, cable runway, and support hooks.
- Fusion splicing fiber optic cable.
- Supporting Meet Me Room/Carrier points of presence and aiding in operations, administration, and maintenance of infrastructure and network equipment.
- Interacting with multiple ticketing and monitoring systems to perform daily tasks and activities.
- Assuming leadership role on internal/external escalations, projects, and other duties as assigned.
- Planning, installation, and troubleshooting of power-related tasks, including power circuits and load management.
- Documenting existing infrastructure and bringing prior installations up to standards.
Requirements
- Experience with racking and stacking of servers to battery/power and structured cabling.
- Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines and ensuring uptime.
- Ability to lead projects and work autonomously under customer direction on servers/routers/switches.
- Experience with the installation of copper and fiber-optic cables.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Experience using basic construction tools such as drills, ladders, and shovels.
- Ability to work from ladders and lift equipment, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
