About the position

The Cabling Technician Level II position at Global Business Solutions involves designing, installing, and maintaining structured cabling systems, primarily focusing on low voltage technology. This role serves as a team lead in the field, reporting directly to the Cabling Department Manager, and requires effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and adherence to installation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Aid and direct the installation of copper/fiber optic computer, telephone, security, and building automation cables.
  • Communicate with the Installation Manager on a daily basis.
  • Track materials and job site leads.
  • Update job site prints and execute job builds to customer satisfaction and GBS installation standards.
  • Perform wire pulling, device rigging, cable termination, and testing.
  • Install, terminate, and test various low voltage cables, including Ethernet, fiber optic, and coaxial cables.
  • Install various types of equipment including TVs, speakers, projectors, WAPS, and cameras.
  • Train on proper cable routing, dressing, and labeling techniques.
  • Lead the setup of racks, cabinets, and cable support systems under the guidance of the manager.
  • Test and troubleshoot cables and connections using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Participate in cable fault identification and resolution activities.
  • Train and practice safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of cabling layouts, schematics, and test results.
  • Collaborate with experienced technicians to provide efficient technical support on projects.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in structured cabling technologies.
  • Train/job shadow entry level and level I technicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of low voltage experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in cabling.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools and testing equipment used in cabling installations.
  • Effective communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with team members and project leads.
  • Detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to delivering quality work.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
  • BICSI Certification (may obtain certification within 3-5 years).
