About the position

August Winter & Sons, a leading mechanical contractor in Northeast Wisconsin, is seeking a CAD/BIM MEP Designer to join our team. This full-time position is based in Appleton, WI, and offers a competitive salary starting from $50,000 per year. The CAD/BIM MEP Designer will be responsible for creating three-dimensional CAD models of piping, plumbing, and sheet metal duct systems. These models will be used for design, coordination with other systems, and fabrication processes. The successful candidate will work closely with design engineers to produce accurate drawings from sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images, ensuring that all models meet project-specific deliverables and adhere to appropriate codes and company standards. In this role, the designer will set up Revit MEP and AutoCAD MEP projects based on existing templates, develop mechanical construction models, and ensure that the models align with the expectations outlined in the project BIM Execution Plan. Responsibilities will also include preparing detailed drawings, managing file updates, coordinating 3D plumbing and HVAC systems, and providing technical support for existing projects. The designer will attend coordination meetings, assist in clash detection, and create detailed field installation and fabrication drawings. This position requires a proactive individual who is detail-oriented, possesses excellent communication skills, and is capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create three-dimensional CAD models of piping, plumbing, and sheet metal duct systems.
  • Utilize design criteria, appropriate codes, and company standards to ensure models meet project-specific deliverables.
  • Work directly with design engineers to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings, and electronic images.
  • Standardize and produce Virtual Design Coordination (VDC) documents for HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Piping disciplines.
  • Set up Revit MEP and AutoCAD MEP projects based on existing project templates.
  • Develop mechanical construction models in AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP.
  • Ensure models meet expectations stated in the project BIM Execution Plan.
  • Design drawings based on written and verbal descriptions from design engineers.
  • Prepare plan sections, detail drawings, spool sheets, bill of materials, hanger lists, and Total Station files.
  • Perform file management functions such as posting models, downloading updates, managing links, and historic versioning.
  • Coordinate and detail 3D plumbing and HVAC systems.
  • Attend coordination meetings, communicate with other trades, and create reports as required.
  • Assist in clash detection of coordination models.
  • Create detailed field installation and fabrication drawings.
  • Provide technical support for existing projects and field service.
  • Coordinate and prepare record as-built models and drawings.

Requirements

  • Understanding of basic drawing setup, modeling techniques, and general knowledge of drafting standards.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM processes, including sheet metal duct downloads to automated duct fabrication facilities and pipe spooling and mapping for pre-fabrication.
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.
  • Good follow-through and self-implemented quality control measures.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet simultaneous deadlines.
  • Positive attitude and a sense of teamwork.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Revit and CAD drafting skills.
  • Proficient in BIM software (NavisWorks, Bluebeam, 360Glue, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Programs and electronic document exchange.
  • Ability to review and understand contract drawings and specifications.
  • Able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • General knowledge of the construction process.
  • Two-year technical or associate's degree in Computer Aided Drafting/Construction Technology, Mechanical Technology, or similar with knowledge of current CAD and BIM platforms.
  • 2+ years of Mechanical Design experience preferred.
  • Experience in an M/E/P, Architectural (Mechanical/Plumbing) preferred.
