About the position

This is a full-time on-site role for a CAD Drafter & Designer at Tyler Scenic LLC located in Indianapolis, IN. The CAD Drafter & Designer will support the custom fabrication of theatrical scenery for the entertainment industry by creating construction drawings, shop drawings, design exhibits, study models, and other diagrams and drawings for both new and existing designs in collaboration with the layout and engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong drafting background with progressively increasing design responsibilities. The responsibilities include creating build and assembly drawings of provided Design Development drawings that are congruent with internal standards. The candidate will also develop 3D study models of components and assemblies along with bills of materials, revise existing drawings, and assist in organizing, managing, and maintaining document control of engineering records. The role will involve collaborating with the Design team, Project Manager, and operations teams to develop and modify designs, sustaining engineering, preparing and reviewing drawings, and ensuring accuracy and adherence to specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Create construction drawings, shop drawings, design exhibits, and study models for theatrical scenery.
  • Develop 3D study models of components and assemblies along with bills of materials.
  • Revise existing drawings as needed.
  • Assist in organizing, managing, and maintaining document control of engineering records.
  • Collaborate with the Design team, Project Manager, and operations teams to develop and modify designs.
  • Prepare and review drawings to ensure accuracy and adherence to specifications.

Requirements

  • 3 - 5 years' experience in drafting and design.
  • Proficient in AutoDesk software, Vectorworks, and SketchUp.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs.
  • Familiarity with traditional theatrical scenery construction methods.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the project team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Associate of Science degree or equivalent 2-year degree from a college or technical school or higher.
