About the position

The CAD Designer/Drafter role involves creating and maintaining mechanical models and drawings to support production and engineering efforts. This includes preparing 2D and 3D models, custom components, and managing bill of material data. The position requires collaboration with various departments to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet project timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Create designs, models, and manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD 2025 or Fusion.
  • Edit assembly and part features/data.
  • Evaluate machinery used in production and apply that knowledge to designs and drawings.
  • Apply unique design techniques.
  • Communicate primarily with the machine shop and other departments including fabrication, assembly, and engineering.
  • Demonstrate strong team skills and complete tasks in a timely manner ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work closely with senior designers, engineers, and machine shop personnel to generate efficient designs.
  • Manage drawing master list and parts database with cost savings and documentation.
  • Document control for as-built and reverse-engineered parts.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of relevant CAD modeling/drafting experience in AutoCAD, Fusion, or SolidWorks.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Fusion, or similar 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Familiar with basic fastener hardware and applications.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Familiarity with creating CNC router programs using DXF files for plastics fabrication.
  • General knowledge of welding, metal, machining, and fabrication.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to convey technical ideas.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including familiarity with cell equations and tables.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.
  • Experience in a machine shop environment, including vertical milling machines and cutting tables.
  • Experience in a welding/fabrication environment.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and/or injection molding.
  • Associate's degree or completion of a technical trade school or certification in CAD drafting or design.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with 3D printing and/or injection molding.
