About the position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a CAD Designer/Drafter to join our dynamic team dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. This position involves performing plan production for civil engineering projects related to Transportation and Public Infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have either a 2-year technical/associates degree or 2-5 years of experience as a CAD Technician (or equivalent). As a member of our team, you will utilize computer-aided drafting and design software, including AutoCAD and MicroStation, to assist in the preparation of construction details, design plans, reports, and meeting exhibits. You will be responsible for transferring information from engineering markups and computer files to final plans and maps, visualizing and illustrating concepts or designs in 2 or 3 dimensions, and performing tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. In this role, you will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in specialized civil design applications and other widely used computer applications, such as Microsoft Office. A fundamental understanding of various basic civil engineering principles and design procedures is essential, including drainage, pipe hydraulics, stormwater detention, roadway and pavement layout grading, earthwork computations, and water and wastewater systems. You will also assist in the preparation of construction quantity and cost estimates, contributing to the overall success of our projects. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Proficient in specialized civil design applications for AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other widely used computer applications.
  • Basic knowledge of computer file directories and use.
  • Knowledge of TxDOT and standard civil construction plans, details, and related documents.
  • Fundamental understanding of basic civil engineering principles and design procedures, including drainage, pipe hydraulics, stormwater detention, roadway and pavement layout grading, earthwork computations, and water and wastewater systems.
  • Able to assist in the preparation of construction quantity and cost estimates.
  • 2-year technical/associates degree or 2-5 years of experience as a CAD Technician (or equivalent).
  • High School graduate or GED.
