About the position

The CAD Designer at Spectra Tech, Inc. will be responsible for developing CAD models and producing engineering drawings for the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) Upgrades Project. This role involves working closely with the HFIR Design Services Group to ensure accurate configuration control and compliance with engineering standards. The position requires proficiency in SolidWorks and a strong understanding of engineering drawing standards, particularly ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop CAD models and produce engineering drawings in accordance with standards.
  • Implement drawing management processes to maintain HFIR configuration control.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings under the direction of task engineers or designers.
  • Prepare engineering drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Identify and resolve model design and interface problems with system engineers.
  • Produce multi-system, multi-discipline installation drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail drawings from various sources.
  • Work with Design Basis Group lead to ensure accuracy and completeness of drawings in the HFIR Drawing database system.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in an engineering discipline with two years of experience in drafting support of complex multi-discipline systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 5 or more years of SolidWorks experience, with preference for a Certified Solidworks Professional.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Understanding of American Welding Society weld standards/callouts.
  • Ability to understand and model mechanical parts with small tolerances and complex assemblies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with large scale assembly design.
  • Experience in machined part design and piping design/P&ID.
