About the position

The CAD Designer I for Kitchen Suppression Systems at Fox Valley Fire & Safety, Inc. plays a crucial role within the Engineering & Design team, focusing on the design and drafting of fire protection systems, specifically kitchen suppression systems. This position requires a talented CAD designer who possesses experience in the fire protection industry, particularly with kitchen suppression systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in using CAD software to produce detailed drawings that comply with industry standards and regulations. In this role, the CAD Designer I will be responsible for creating fire system drawings for pre-engineered kitchen hood fire suppression systems. These systems are designed to meet the UL300 Standard, which governs wet chemical kitchen fire suppression systems. The designer will utilize information from construction plans, site surveys, and photographs to generate accurate CAD drawings that will be submitted to local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) for review and permitting. The drawings will include critical details such as system manufacturer specifications, system sizes, tank locations, nozzle placements, and other essential components necessary for the installation and operation of the fire suppression systems. Collaboration is key in this position, as the CAD Designer I will work closely with the sales team to print drawings, compile submittal packages, and create as-built drawings reflecting any changes made during the installation process. Responsibilities

  • Produce fire system drawings for pre-engineered kitchen hood fire suppression systems.
  • Utilize construction plans, photos, and site surveys to create CAD drawings for submittal to local AHJs.
  • Include detailed information in drawings such as system manufacturer, size, number of tanks, flow points, nozzle placement, and fusible link ratings.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to print drawings and compile submittal packages.
  • Create as-built drawings for any design changes made in the field.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-3 years experience as a CAD Designer.
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Interest in the Fire & Life Safety Industry and willingness to learn about other facets of the business, such as Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler systems.
  • Dependable and reliable, with the ability to work onsite in Elgin, IL.
  • Professional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • An Associate Degree is desirable.
  • Fire Protection industry experience is highly desirable.
