About the position

The position involves developing designs and layouts for mechanical or electrical equipment, parts, and assemblies, as well as creating product definitions. The role requires the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools to effectively perform job responsibilities. The individual will be responsible for executing technical tasks that are routine or well-prescribed, adhering to established methods and procedures. This includes providing design-drafting services, setting up experiments, documenting results, and contributing to technical designs and documentation. In this role, the employee will utilize CAD models to calculate dimensions and tolerances to ensure proper fit and function of designs. The position encourages the recommendation of new ideas and concepts, with the understanding that modifications to designs may be necessary, pending direct supervision approval. The quality of task completion is crucial, as it may significantly impact the overall project outcome. Additionally, the employee may be assigned other duties as needed. Safety is a priority in this position; the employee is expected to conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, complying with established Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) requirements to protect employees, the public, and the environment. Responsibilities

  • Develop designs and layouts of mechanical or electrical equipment, parts, and assemblies.
  • Create product definitions using CAD and CAE tools.
  • Perform technical tasks that are routine or well-prescribed, following established methods and procedures.
  • Provide design-drafting services as required.
  • Set up experiments and document results accurately.
  • Contribute to technical designs and documentation.
  • Use CAD models to calculate dimensions and tolerances to ensure fit and function.
  • Recommend new ideas and concepts for design improvements.
  • Modify designs as necessary with direct supervision approval.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner, adhering to HS&E requirements.
  • Stop work when unsafe conditions or actions are identified.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience in design drafting or equivalent experience using CAD computer systems.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Ability to work hybrid or on-site as directed by management based on business needs.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential for this job.
  • United States Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance if required for the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Entry-level knowledge of computer-aided design tools, typically acquired through technical training or a BST/BS degree in a relevant field.
  • Ability to work without supervision and provide technical and project guidance.
  • Ability to perform component research and recommend design alternatives.
  • Capability to independently accomplish tasks that may be sequenced with the work of others.
