About the position

The CAD Designer at WesTech plays a crucial role in the engineering team by participating in automated drafting activities to create structural, mechanical, and engineering drawings for water, wastewater, and industrial equipment. This position emphasizes collaboration within a design team and requires attention to detail to ensure accuracy in drawings and adherence to project specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Draw structural, mechanical, and engineering details of equipment and structures using Inventor.
  • Utilize engineering handbooks, design manuals, and part catalogs to gather necessary data.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of a design team.
  • Interpret contract drawings and specifications to produce accurate drawings.
  • Maintain sets of drawings and manage drawing changes.
  • Prepare a variety of detail drawings that are clear and complete on the first attempt.
  • Create detail drawings from sketches or layouts.
  • Modify designs to meet required specifications.
  • Work from verbal instructions and sketches.
  • Be aware of budget and schedule constraints and complete assignments on time.
  • Visually compare designs with drawings to ensure accuracy of fit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Product Design and Development, Design Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD software.
  • Understanding of design concepts, planning, techniques, and engineering drafting practices.
  • Ability to prepare layouts and drawings accurately and legibly.
  • Ability to create accurate drawings from field notes, design drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to the work.
  • Ability to maintain records and drawings relevant to the work.
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Product Design and Development, Design Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of related experience.
  • Experience in complex CAD model management and CAD library management.
  • Ability to teach and mentor others.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Inventor, and CREO.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience in structural detailing and GDT.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication.
